With fall in full force, cold and rainy weekends are sure to happen. Luckily, being stuck inside doesn’t mean you and your child cant have plenty of fun! There are a lot of creative ways to entertain preschoolers, kindergarteners, and even older children. Here are some creative ideas that you can turn to when board games are getting old.

Build a Fort
Every child loves building forts, and it can be as simple for you as getting down the blankets from the linen closet. You can add some creativity by suggesting your child adds a puppet show stage, dining room, or other activity area to the fort. Then, later, you can put on a play, have a tea party, or let your child pretend to cook dinner with you.

Set Up a Picnic for Lunch
Picnics are fun whether they are inside or outside! Just because it is too cold to enjoy time in a park doesn’t mean you can’t pack up a basket, grab a blanket, and enjoy a fun meal on the floor. Let your child color placemats and set up the eating area for some added fun.

Set Up a Treasure Hunt
The challenge of a good treasure hunt stimulates children’s creativity while also keeping them occupied for hours. Next time you’re at the store, find a few small, inexpensive treasures to hide around the house. Then, write out clues or draw your child a map to find the treasure.

Do Crafts
Crafts offer unlimited fun for preschool and kindergarten children. And they don’t have to be messy or complicated to be enjoyable. Give your child an old cardboard box and tell them to create a house for them or your family pet. Or have them read a book and draw or sculpt their favorite scenes with crayons or play-doh.

Use these fun ideas to get a jumpstart on the colder fall weekends coming up. With these fun activities along with reading books, playing games, and helping out around the house, your preschool child will forget that it isn’t summer anymore!
