Why You Should Spend 20 Minutes a Day Reading with Your Child

It only takes 20 minutes to change a child’s entire life. Simply by opening a book every day and reading to your child for less than a half-hour, you can instill a love of reading in your child for a lifetime. After all, that 20 minutes adds up to about 10 hours of reading a month. It won’t be long before your child isn’t satisfied with only 20 minutes a day of reading. Keep books in your child’s room within easy reach and make sure your child has time to read on his or her own every day. You might even whip up snacks and meals that relate to a favorite book; what child hasn’t wondered what green eggs and ham would taste like? It’s remarkable how quickly children grow up. When your child progresses to reading more advanced books, you’ll think back to that first time you settled down to read to your child for 20 minutes – and the first time your child begged you to keep reading.
