There are a near-infinite number of ways to make special memories with your children. Some of the best memories can be of those regular nights at home, when everyone was done with child care and work and ready to spend time together. You can make sure every minute counts with your children this summer by trying some of these afterwork activities:

  • Encourage healthy eating habits by making dinner as a family. Homemade meals can provide a number of benefits to all members of the family. Not only will you save money by avoiding restaurant meals; you will also help your children learn about cooking and making healthy food choices. Come up with ideas and choose a meal plan the night before. After getting home from work, you can head to the grocery store and then start cooking your delicious and nutritious dinner!
  • Plan a pirate treasure hunt. You don’t have to be out on the open seas to enjoy the life of a swashbuckling pirate! Your backyard provides the perfect setting for a pirate treasure hunt. This fun and exciting activity is both easy to set up and fun for all members of the family. Go to a party store and find bejeweled rings, coins, and other items that can be used as treasure, as well as a treasure chest and supplies for treasure maps. Before work, you can hide the treasure, leaving out pieces along the backyard as clues. Create a treasure map, and then work together to find the treasure after dinner.
  • Create a summer scrapbook. Bring your family closer together this summer by creating a book filled with memories of what everyone did, both together and on their own! Encourage members of your family to take pictures throughout summer and give everyone a journal that they can use to compile their favorite memories and accomplishments. After dinner, the family can meet up in the living room and use their favorite pictures, stories, and decorations to create an awesome summer scrapbook.

These activities will give you something fun to look forward to after returning home from work and picking the kids up from summer camp and child care!
