Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14, is right around the corner, and nothing says “love” like quality time spent together with your children. Looking for some inspiration that won’t break the bank and add stress to your already busy schedule? Here are a few simple ideas that will help you to express your love for your little one on Valentine’s Day. You will also help to build childhood memories that will last a lifetime!
- Make a simple craft. Children love to create things. Try bending red or white pipe cleaners into a heart shape and then string Cheerios on it. Now, you can also show your “love” for the birds during the cold winter months! It’s a great teaching tool for child development.
- Create an easy Valentine-themed dinner. Children of all ages love pizza. How about making heart-shaped pizzas out of English-muffins? They can sprinkle cheese, you add the sauce, toast for a few minutes, and voila! Dinner is served. Add some carrot and celery sticks for a balanced meal. Don’t forget the chocolate candy kisses for dessert!
- Watch a movie. One of the best “love-ly” childhood movies of all time is Disney’s Lady and the Tramp! Little ones can’t resist this wholesome, funny, and puppy-centered tale. String some popcorn together to make a necklace and you have a date.
- Dance. Dance. Dance. Children love to dance and express themselves. Clear out the coffee table and pump up the music! Play favorites such as “Better When I’m Dancin’ ” by Meghan Trainor, Pharrell’s “Happy” or the classic “L-O-V-E” by Frank Sinatra. Your preschool children will love it!
- Take pictures with funny faces. Selfies with your children are fun for even the youngest children these days. Make a collage of your funniest poses and glue it into a homemade Valentine’s card. This will be treasured well into the teenage years!
With just a little effort, you can make this Valentine’s Day extra special for your infant, toddler or preschool aged child. Happy Valentine’s Day from your extended family at Lightbridge Academy!
