Camping is a classic summertime activity that provides an assortment of fun and engaging activities. But you don’t have to find a campground in order to enjoy this timeless hobby; you can set up camp right in your own backyard! Follow these tips to plan a backyard camping adventure before preschool starts this year:

  • Get the proper camping supplies. You can’t have a camping trip without the right tools and equipment! If you want to plan a realistic adventure for your family, you will need to gather up the proper supplies. Find enough tents and sleeping bags for the whole family. Outdoor chairs are also a good choice if you plan to have a backyard campfire. Other must-have camping supplies are flashlights, bug spray, and sunscreen.
  • Set up a treasure hunt. Ensure an exciting and unforgettable camping experience by creating your very own treasure or scavenger hunt for the family to try! Pick an assortment of camping or outdoor-related items, such as leaves, rocks, compasses, bandanas, or other items to use as hidden treasures or prizes. Hide these items in different parts of the backyard, and then create a map or scavenger hunt list that will guide family members in the right direction!
  • Choose games and other activities. Playing games is always fun when spending time in the great outdoors. Sit down with your family earlier in the week to talk about the types of games and activities you want to play during your camping adventure. You can choose classic games such as hide and go seek or capture the flag, or make your own games with your own rules! Compile a list of activities to bring along on your backyard camping trip.
  • Prepare to tell stories around the campfire. After a long day of treasure-hunting, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors, your family will be ready to relax around the campfire. You can prepare by coming up with stories and jokes to tell while roasting marshmallows and making s’mores around the campfire.

A camping adventure can be the perfect end to a great summer, making it easier for your child to get excited about starting kindergarten!
