Happy Mother’s Day!

May 02, 2016

This Sunday, May 8th, 2016 we celebrate Mother’s Day, a day in which we honor all of the mothers that have made a difference in our lives. Moms with preschool children wear many hats in a family: they are the personal chef, police officer, teacher, housekeeper, fort designer, nurse, bodyguard, activities coordinator, kiss and hugs expert and maybe even-ninja warrior!

All kidding aside, moms have one of the most important jobs on the planet! Job duties include nurturing, loving, comforting, and caring for your child. This is no small task! Moms are responsible for raising our next generation’s future leaders, without vacations or sick days (no pressure, of course). Seriously, being a mom is the most special job in the world!
So on Mother’s Day, all moms should be treated to a special day to take a break and have some fun!

Here are a few simple suggestions to make your Mother’s Day extra special. (Enlist dad, grandma, or a friend to help carryout out these plans.)

  1. Have breakfast in bed. Even the youngest of helpers can stir pancake batter, help butter toast, or throw a few blueberries or strawberries together to make a fruit salad. Any meal mom does not have to make herself is appreciated!
  2. Make a craft or homemade card. Preschool children love to get involved with making their mom feel special, so have them draw a picture and write “I Love You” or make this simple craft to let them mom know you care. Trace your child’s hand with colored construction paper and decorate it to look like flowers.
  3. Plant some flowers. Instead of store-bought flowers, why not enlist the children to plant a few flowers outside? This will keep the little ones busy and make mom very happy! Pansies, impatiens, petunias or geraniums are some of the most common annuals.
  4. Sing a Song. Moms LOVE to hear their children sing, so teach them this simple song. It should be sang to the tune of “If you”re happy and you know it…”
If you love mom and you know it, clap your hands…
If you love mom and you know it, shake your hips…
If you love mom and you know it, blow a kiss…
  5. Share an experience– Go for a walk or stroll through the park, have a picnic outside or enjoy some family time together having ice cream!
  6. Give mom some time alone. Sometimes moms needs a few quiet moments to recharge, so consider taking the little ones out for a few hours while mom can get some much needed rest. Mom can then choose how to spend this precious time by reading a book, getting a manicure or even just enjoying a nice cup of coffee! And while she’s gone, dad and the children can help sort laundry or pack lunches for tomorrow.

Whatever activity you choose, enjoy your special day with your precious children. You deserve the royal treatment, at least for one day! Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful moms from your extended family at Lightbridge Academy!
